What is a check valve and how does it work?

GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester) pipes are durable and flexible composite pipes obtained by impregnating glass fibers into a thermosetting resin matrix. Standing out with their high fracture resistance and lightweight structure, GRP pipes are preferred in many sectors because they possess chemical resistance as well as a non-magnetic structure that is permeable to radio signals.
GRP pipes, which can be easily shaped for various application areas, have a wide area of utilization, primarily in the chemical, construction, and energy sectors.
Why Kuzeyboru GRP Pipes?
Sustainable development principles are prioritized in the production of Kuzeyboru GRP pipes. A low carbon footprint is targeted in all processes from raw material selection to the final product, and environmentally friendly production processes have been developed. GRP pipes manufactured with special techniques developed in Kuzeyboru's R&D center can be customized according to the needs of projects and meet high quality standards.
Kuzeyboru GRP pipes hold local and international quality certificates and are designed to be long-lasting, offering durability across generations. To minimize environmental impact, green energy sources are used in production, advanced technology machinery is preferred, and occupational safety is kept at the forefront. This ensures both an environmentally sensitive and safe production process.
An economically sustainable solution, Kuzeyboru GRP pipes offer ease of transport and installation due to their lightweight structure. Thanks to their erosion/abrasion resistance and smooth inner surface that retains its characteristics until the end of its lifespan, they reduce operating and maintenance costs, making the operational process more efficient.
Application Areas of GRP Pipes
- Potable water transmission lines and network lines
- Main transmission and network distribution lines for irrigation projects
- Wastewater discharge lines and sewerage networks
- Wastewater treatment plants
- Drinking water treatment plants
- Hydroelectric power plant transmission lines
- Tee pieces
- Elbows

Kuzeyboru GRP Production Limits (DN, PN, SN)
Kuzeyboru manufactures GRP pipes in the desired diameter, pressure, and stiffness according to project requirements. The production ranges for Kuzeyboru GRP pipes are provided below:
Length: 6 and 12 meters. Upon request, production can be made in any desired length, provided that shipping conditions are taken into consideration.
Diameter (DN): 200 mm – 4,000 mm
Pressure (PN): 1 – 32 bar
Stiffness (SN): Standard: 2,500 – 5,000 – 10,000 N/m²
- Upon request: Production can be made up to SN 1,000,000 N/m².
Advantages of GRP Pipes
Lightweight and Low Transport Cost
Kuzeyboru GRP pipes weigh 1/10 of concrete pipes and 1/4 of steel pipes. Thanks to their lightweight structure and suitability for nested shipment, they provide economical transportation.
Easy Installation and Leakproof Coupling Options
They offer easier and faster installation opportunities compared to other pipe types. Kuzeyboru possesses both coupling technologies used for joining GRP pipes. Depending on project requirements and demand, REKA or integrated gasketed coupling connections can be preferred.
High Corrosion Resistance
Since GRP pipes do not undergo corrosion, they do not require additional coating or cathodic protection.
Superior Hydraulic Properties and Low Operating Costs
Thanks to their smooth inner surface, Kuzeyboru GRP pipes maintain their hydraulic properties throughout their operating life. Due to these superior hydraulic characteristics and smooth inner surface, hydraulic losses are lower than in other pipe types. Accordingly, a pump with a lower capacity can be selected, resulting in energy savings during the operational lifetime.
Water Hammer Resistance and Long Service Life
Thanks to their low modulus of elasticity, they damp pressure waves caused by water hammer and minimize system stress compared to rigid pipes such as steel or ductile iron. With a design compliant with standards, they safely tolerate instantaneous pressure increases up to 40% of the nominal pressure (PN).
Long Service Life
50 years of service life.
Low Operating Expenses
Due to superior hydraulic properties and a smooth inner surface, hydraulic losses are lower than other pipe categories. Consequently, lower capacity pumps can be chosen, leading to energy savings throughout the operation process.
